PremiAir Racing has endured a character-building end to what was already a difficult Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway today, struggling in qualifying before being further hampered in the race by a lack of car pace.
The day started off with two-part qualifying for race 19, with Richie Stanaway struggling with continuing steering issues in the #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro after yesterday’s troubles for a grid spot of P22. Jimmy Golding meanwhile was able to progress the #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro to part two in P17, before finishing out the qualifying session in P18 as he unsuccessfully searched for late session speed.
When the 70-lap Race 19 got underway in the afternoon, it did so with a new steering rack on the #62 and an optimistic attitude across both sides of the garage.
A good start saw both drivers hold position, with Stanaway going on to climb two spots while Golding dropped one across the opening laps, reporting a knock to the front at the same time which thankfully did not result in any damage.
Later in the race, Stanaway was hit by more bad luck with his radio temporarily going out, with the old-school pit board ready to go if required.
The team dug deep to do what they could throughout the race to claw back spots through a mix of strategy with long stints, smooth stops, and opportunistic overtakes, eventually crossing the line in P17 (Golding) and P18 (Stanaway) for an improvement of one and four spots respectively compared to their starting positions to close out what had been a frustrating weekend.
While not giving the results they had hoped, it wasn’t a case of all bad news for the team – race 19 marked the final time on the spike for Jaidyn Bulloch, with ‘J-Dog’ off to begin an auto electrical apprenticeship, with the entire team proud of this next adventure for him and taking the time to thank him for his efforts and dedication across his tenure with PremiAir Racing throughout the event.
The next round of the Supercars Championship will be held on the streets of Townsville, with the Townsville 500 to be held across 11-13 July. For event information, visit www.supercars.com
QUOTEBOARD: DARWIN TRIPLE CROWN – Sunday 22 June, 2025
Ludo Lacroix – Competition Director, PremiAir Racing
“It was another challenging day at work for us. We didn’t qualify where we wanted to qualify, in the heat of the day in Darwin it is difficult. At the start we were okay but then the first lap wasn’t…we ended up P20/P21 and from there we gained a few spots with a bit of strategy and a bit of this and a bit of that, but we didn’t have the pace to go much forward, so to be fair, that is where we ended up being in reality.”
Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro
“It was a bit of an average day for us today. We thought we had a bit of a plan of attack after going through everything last night, but we still missed the mark. So, we struggled in qualifying and also in racing conditions. It was pretty disappointing as at the end of this round we thought we were going to be pretty strong, but that wasn’t the case. We have a lot to work through to try and find out why as we are a fair way off the mark of where we need to be. We have to tune it up between now and Townsville and come out swinging there because everyone is getting away in the points and we need to pull our finger out. Yeah, it is time to work harder.”
Richie Stanaway – #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro
“It was a really tough weekend for us. We had a DNF and also finished multiple laps down in the two races yesterday and then today we had a really, really difficult race. We have a lot to learn and it can only get better from here. We will try and have a good debrief and really put our heads together, and try and bounce back in Townsville.”
