PETER PREVIEWS THE TOWNSVILLE 500

PREMIAIR RACING HOPEFUL FOR TERRIFIC TOWNSVILLE:

It has been an intense first half of the year at tracks all around the country, and we could not be more excited to be heading to sunny North Queensland this weekend for the Townsville 500.

It is no secret that our weekend in Darwin didn’t go to plan, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some highlights as well – for instance, our straight line speed was so superior at Hidden Valley Raceway that they sealed one of our engines for inspection after the event!

Of course, no issues were found, and our compliance was affirmed, along with our confidence that the long straights of Townsville will suit our PremiAir Racing Camaros this weekend.

Also buoying our spirits is the fact that at Darwin, our crew achieved the third-quickest pit stops in the field, behind Triple Eight and Brad Jones Racing. It won’t be surprising for you to hear that our pit stops have been a key focus for our team as we have sought to improve wherever possible, and so to see that we are stacking up so well against our competitors is positive news indeed.

Something else we have been working on is qualifying – we say it time and time again, but in this game, with such tight margins and such competition between all the racers, qualifying is so very important, and it will once again be a make or break component of this weekend’s racing.

Like in Darwin, we will have mixed formats for qualifying this weekend. However, unlike Darwin and most of our other rounds, we will begin racing on Friday instead of having to wait until Saturday.

The two-part qualifying format will be used for Friday’s 35-lap race 20 of the Supercars championship, before Saturday and Sunday’s 70-lap races 21 and 22 will both have their grids set by a three-part qualifier – a two-part knock-out followed by a Top Ten Shootout.

If we can qualify strongly, we have all the ingredients for a great result in Townsville, which, in addition to being the halfway point of our season, also marks three years since Jimmy Golding joined our team.

Over the past three years, we have achieved a great deal together, and I am excited about what is to come for both Jimmy and Richie Stanaway as we continue to build within this team, together.

When we hit the track in Townsville, we will be retaining our Indigenous round livery from Darwin, which was designed for former Wallabies stars, the Fainga’a twins – Saia and Anthony – by celebrated Widjabul artist, Sheldon ‘SJ’ Harrington.

With NAIDOC Week concluding over the Townsville weekend, it seemed fitting to keep this special design on both PremiAir Racing Camaros. We will be proud to host Saia and Anthony in our garage across the weekend, so they can see the designs in action firsthand.

Here’s hoping we can strike back this weekend and bring home some great results for all our supporters and sponsors – speaking of which, don’t forget to make sure you are in the running for Nulon’s promotion to win the ultimate VIP experience at the 2025 Singapore GP.
