With August 20th marking the 50-day countdown to this year’s Great Race, PremiAir Racing is today reflecting on the deep connections Mount Panorama creates across generations of Australian motorsport.
In doing so, the Arundel-based team has released previously unseen video and imagery from the Darwin Triple Crown, where PremiAir Racing’s Jimmy Golding had the chance to be part of something truly memorable: sharing the track with 81-year-old former Bathurst racer, Henk Woelders.
Woelders raced at Bathurst with the renowned Holden Dealer Team (HDT) back in 1969: a time of Monaros, pit boards, and over the shoulder seatbelts.
Fast-forward to 2025, and Henk found himself buckled into the passenger seat of a 600-horsepower Gen3 Supercar for a hot lap with PremiAir Racing’s Jimmy Golding, and absolutely loving it.
“To share a lap with someone who raced Bathurst more than 50 years ago was something I won’t forget,” Jimmy said.
“Henk’s love for the sport is still as strong as ever. You can tell Bathurst left a lasting mark on him – and he’s now left one on me, too.”
For Woelders, the experience was just as unforgettable.
“I never imagined I’d get back into a race car at 81, let alone at race pace,” he said with a grin after stepping out of the car.
“Jimmy gave me a ride I’ll never forget – it’s amazing how far the sport has come, and how the thrill never fades.”
This unforgettable moment was made possible by PremiAir Racing’s valued partner, Nulon, with the team noting that the company’s ongoing support helps it to create opportunities that connect the past and present of Australian motorsport.
“Moments like this remind us that Bathurst is more than just a date on the calendar – it is a shared passion, a rite of passage, and a place where every lap tells a story,” PremiAir Racing Team Owner, Peter Xiberras, said.
“It is truly something special, not just for the challenge of the track, but for the deep connections it creates across generations of Australian motorsport.
“From the legends of the past to the stars of today, the Mountain has a way of bringing people together in the most incredible ways.
“We absolutely cannot wait to return there in 50 days’ time.”
