PremiAir Racing completed a productive opening day at Queensland Raceway, working through two 30-minute practice sessions under clear skies as the team began its preparations for the weekend ahead.
The day started with Practice 1, where both Jayden Ojeda and Declan Fraser headed straight out as pit lane opened to begin building a read on the track conditions. With air temperature sitting at 26°C and the track at 35°C, the session provided an important opportunity to gather early data and establish a baseline for both cars.
Declan focused on qualifying performance late in Practice 1, showing strong one-lap speed and finishing near the pointy end of the timing sheets. Jayden’s session was centred around race trim, completing long-run work to better understand tyre wear and balance across a longer stint.
Following the chequered flag, both cars remained on track for practice starts before returning to the garage ahead of Practice 2.
The second session saw the team continue to build, with Jayden switching focus to qualifying-style running while Declan carried on from the direction established in Practice 1. A red flag interrupted the early part of the session, but not before both PremiAir Racing Camaros had recorded encouraging flying laps.
Once pit exit reopened, the pair continued to trade positions on the timing screens as the track evolved. Both drivers completed valuable performance runs in the closing stages, with Jayden lighting up the timing screens with a purple Sector 3 late in the session.
While final practice positions are only part of the picture, the team completed a full programme across both sessions, collecting valuable data on race pace, tyre behaviour and qualifying performance.
With plenty of work completed and a solid base established, PremiAir Racing now turns its attention to tomorrow’s running at Queensland Raceway.
“It was a busy day for us. In Practice 1 we focused on a race run, just trying to gather some data that will hopefully help us across the rest of the weekend.
Then in Practice 2, it was my first time on the good tyre with low fuel, so we spent a fair bit of the session chasing the car. We made it better as we went, but I’m probably not completely happy with where we ended up overall.
It’s good to have tonight to go through everything, have a think about where we can improve, and hopefully put the complete package on track tomorrow.”
“Not a terrible day for us in the office. We ended up P3 and P11, so it’s good to be back up there and fighting around the top 10.
It’s still only practice, so we’ve just got to keep chipping away. We rolled out in a pretty decent window based on what Jayden and I learned through the test days, which is encouraging.
From here, it’s just about continuing to tune it up, keeping our heads down and pushing on.”
