RACE PACE EVIDENT, BUT STILL WORK TO DO

Strong underlying pace was evident for Declan Fraser and Jayden Ojeda in the #777 and #31 PremiAir Racing Camaros during Race 2 of the 2026 Supercars Championship at the Sydney 500 on Saturday night.

Fraser crossed the line in 14th after an early setback and was later elevated to 13th following a post-race penalty issued to Thomas Randle. Ojeda finished 22nd after a costly pit lane issue under Safety Car in the 200km contest.

Earlier in the afternoon, both drivers progressed through Part 1 of qualifying with rain looming in the background. Ojeda comfortably advanced to Part 2, while Fraser secured P18 to move into the second 10-minute session. In that session, minor mistakes under pressure denied both entries a shot at the Top 10 Shootout, with Ojeda qualifying P15 and Fraser P18 for the night race.

At the Race 2 green flag, Fraser was forced wide at Turn 1 and dropped to P23, immediately putting him on the back foot. Ojeda, by contrast, launched cleanly and settled into P15

The complexion of the race changed under Safety Car when a stopped car triggered a double stack in pit lane. As Ojeda exited the box, the right rear wheel detached, forcing the team to recover the car. The issue dropped the #31 a lap down, effectively ending any opportunity to fight forward, though it provided valuable mileage and data before a final stop for tyres and fuel on Lap 43 and the run to the chequered flag.

Fraser capitalised on clean stops and a smart fuel strategy as the pit cycles unfolded, steadily climbing the order. By mid-race, he had worked his way into P16, and a strong final stint — supported by a late splash-and-dash stop allowed him to gain further positions in the closing laps.

QUOTEBOARD: DUNLOP SYDNEY 500, SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY 2026

#777 PremiAir Racing Camaro Declan Fraser

“Yeah, it was a decent day for us. We made a step forward in qualifying by getting through to Part 2, which was positive, even if we couldn’t quite advance from there. That was a little frustrating, but overall we definitely closed the gap to the guys in front, which I’m really happy with.

Heading into the race, we committed to going long in the middle stint and that really paid off. We came home strongly at the end and worked our way up to P13. The car felt quick, which was encouraging.

I’m just pleased that we’re building momentum now and starting to blow the cobwebs out. There’s more to come.”

#31 PremiAir Racing Camaro Jayden Ojeda

“The good news was we had plenty of pace. I got a much better start than yesterday and actually ended up a position ahead after the first few laps, which was a positive. The car felt really strong.

Unfortunately, we had a small error during the pit stop and rolled out with three wheels, which obviously isn’t ideal. It all happened pretty quickly and from there we were on the back foot.

Our only real option was to hang out and hope for a Safety Car once the field had cycled through their stops, to try and get back onto the lead lap, but it just never came. That was really the only opportunity we had in the second half of the race.

Even so, the car felt quick and strong in the first stint and again at the end when I could push on the used tyre.

All in all, it was a solid day with some key things to tidy up, but also some positives to take into Sunday.”
