PremiAir Nulon Racing team boss and two-time Australian Top Fuel champion, Peter Xiberras, is expanding his on-track duties at the upcoming Bathurst 1000 to include the role of driver.
Xiberras will line-up at Mount Panorama at the October 10-13 event, which features the biggest race on the Supercars championship calendar, as part of the V8 Sleuth Heritage Revival.
While most well-known for his drag racing exploits, Xiberras made his competitive circuit racing debut at the Winton Festival of Speed in early August aboard his restored Group A ex-Graeme Crosby, Bob Jane T-Marts VK Commodore.
Now, he will take the same car to the infamous Bathurst, where it has plenty of history to its name after having been piloted there by Formula 1 world champion Denny Hulme in 1985, as well as that year’s Sandown 500.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what motorsport discipline you follow, there is no arguing that Mount Panorama is at the pointy end of the list when it comes to legendary racing tracks in this country, and in the world,” Xiberras said.
“As I get ready to be a part of our third Supercars campaign at Bathurst, I am really excited to have the opportunity to experience racing on this hallowed ground first-hand, albeit at the wheel of a very different kind of car to that which we field in the 1000!
“Making my competitive debut at Winton in August was something I really enjoyed, so I was looking for further opportunities for some track-time, and honestly, who is going to pass up the chance to race at the Mountain.
“With a capacity grid of 55 cars including Group A, Group C, Group 3A five-litre V8s and two-litre Super Tourers, the V8 Sleuth Heritage Revival is going to be something really special and enjoyable, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
While Xiberras prepares for his Bathurst racing debut, he is of course also managing a complex preparation program for the PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaros.
“With our breakthrough podium coming at the Sandown 500 just weeks ago, all eyes are on us as we head to the 1000,” Xiberras said.
“I could not be more proud of my team and how they have conducted themselves this season as we have hunted down that milestone, and we are hungry for more.
“It is all hands on deck as we get ready for the 1000, and you can rest assured we will be doing all we can to ensure PremiAir Nulon Racing is once again celebrating on the podium come the Sunday afternoon.”
