TOP TEN BRINGS POSITIVE END TO TOWNSVILLE 500

Jimmy Golding has brought home a top-ten result in the #31 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro with a late race charge on a three-stop strategy. 

Golding had started the race P18 and put on an impressive display to advance up the field in the early stages and again following the final stop, undertaking a number of big moves to move from P14 to P10 while setting the fastest lap of the race (1:15.3179) in the dying moments of the 88-lap outing. 

On the other side of the PremiAir Nulon Racing garage, Tim Slade and the #23 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro employed a two-stop strategy. 

With a strong start, Slade advanced a number of positions in the early stages of the race. An all-around solid and clean performance ultimately saw him bring the #23 across the line in P17 after having started 20th.

In the Super2 ranks, Cameron McLeod qualified P11 this morning and finished P5 in the afternoon race. In a strong drive job, McLeod moved from P11 to P7 in the first lap aboard the #92 RM Racing Cars supported by PremiAir Racing ZB Commodore before moving to P6 on lap two and P5 by lap 5; where he remained until the conclusion of the 29 lap race. 

PremiAir Nulon Racing will next be on track with the Supercars Championship across July 19-21 for the Sydney SuperNight. The Super2 championship will be in action at the Sandown 500 in September. For event information, visit www.supercars.com

Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro

“Getting the fastest lap was pretty cool. We got off to a really good start – obviously, we didn’t qualify well, so we had our work cut out for us, but we got up to 13th (before the first stop) and opted to go with the three-stopper, and we just had to push in every stint. The car was fast early in the stints but couldn’t quite hang on at the end, so we maximised it where we could and came through to P10, which was cool.”

“With where we started after qualifying, we needed to devise a plan to move forward for the race, and we chose the three-stop tyre strategy. Jimmy did an awesome job doing everything I asked, and we came through the field. We will head back to the workshop for about four days now and come up with the best setup for Sydney.” 

Tim Slade – #23 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro

“With the way the race unfolded, the three-stopper was the way to go so we were hindered on the two-stop strategy, but that is the way it goes sometimes. We managed to advance up the field off the start and then again at different stages throughout the race, before coming home P17, which while it wasn’t what we were looking for, still marked an improvement over our starting position. We have a lot to go through in the debrief and hopefully, we can put together a strong program ready for the Sydney SuperNight in a couple of weeks’ time.” 

Ludo Lacroix – PremiAir Nulon Racing Competition Director and #23 race engineer

“We decided that one of the cars would do the three-stop, which was a decision made in the pit lane before the race. The car that is best to do that (stop three times) is always the first car (in the order) because it gets fresh air, so the plan was for Romy to do it, and that was really well executed. We lost a little bit of time with a slow going out of that car on the third pit stop, so we spent another six or seven seconds in pit lane which probably cost us a couple of spots, but overall, the execution of the race was good, and the base of the car was not too bad. For Tim he started 20th and finished 17th and obviously the three stopper (strategy) is always a little bit better here but you can’t put both cars in the same bed at some stage because then if you have a safety car you have them queuing behind each other. So, you one on a three stop and one on a two stop and we were on the wrong end of the stick with that with Tim, but we still move forward, and we still have some data to look at and try to understand where we can do better.” 

Cameron McLeod – #92 RM Racing Cars supported by PremiAir Racing ZB Commodore

“We got a good start and jumped probably two rows off the start, and then from there we just passed the next couple of people and settled into fifth place. I think from where we started the weekend, we are pretty happy with that, and we will just push on now to Sandown and do our best. I will also be Sydney for the ride days.”
