TOP TEN ROUNDS OUT SYDNEY SUPERNIGHT FOR PREMIAIR NULON RACING

A trajectory of improvement at the Sydney SuperNight has continued for PremiAir Nulon Racing today, with two cars in the Shootout and a top ten result in the race providing a positive finish amidst what had been a challenging weekend.

Jimmy Golding crossed the line P9 in the #31 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro in the final race, while Tim Slade finished P12 in a result which does not truly reflect the potential held by the #23 PremiAir Nulon Racing entry today.

The PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaros started the race side by side, with Slade P7 after having been P2 in the earlier qualifying, while Golding occupied the P8 grid box.

Both drivers enjoyed a strong start, with Golding moving from P7 to P5 to be challenging for P4 in the opening corners, while Slade maintained P7 early amidst a flurry of action over the opening laps before eventually settling into P8.

Golding was amongst the early stoppers on lap 13, while Slade did not pit until lap 20 due to a radio issue which meant neither team not driver could hear the other.

Unfortunately, this communication issue saw the ideal stop window for the #23 missed, drastically undermining the overall strategy for the #23 to such an extent that the team estimates a loss of three to four potential spots as a result.

From there, both drivers put in valiant efforts to move up the field as much as they could during their second stints, before the late charge after their final stops (on lap 30 for Golding and lap 27 for Slade) saw Golding as high as P8 before settling for P9 on the final lap due to fading tyres, and Slade moving up a number of spots to P12.

PremiAir Nulon Racing will next be on-track with the Supercars Championship for the Tasmania SuperSprint across August 16-18. For event information, visit www.supercars.com

QUOTEBOARD: SYDNEY SUPERNIGHT – SATURDAY 20 JULY 2024

Tim Slade – #23 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro

“The day started off pretty well with P2 and both cars in the Top Ten Shootout. My P2 was then converted to P7 in the shootout as we struggled again a bit with switching on the green tyre for that kind of lap. In the race things were looking pretty strong and we felt we were on-track for a top ten for both cars, but the radio issue for my car really undermined our efforts there and we finished three or four spots further back than what we feel we should have, which is always a hard pill to swallow. But we will regroup and look ahead to the next one.”

Ludo Lacroix – PremiAir Nulon Racing Competition Director and #23 race engineer

“It was an up and down day. To put a car in the top ten (of the race) is never a bad thing, and we could have had two but we had an issue with the radio (for #23) and so we couldn’t communicate very well with the car and missed the window where we wanted to pit, which cost us probably three or four places for Timmy, that (a radio issue) is not a big drama but we could have done a better job, so we need to be more neat on all the little details.”

Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro

“It was awesome to finish under lights here in Sydney like always, it was super fun racing out there and feels awesome. It was not too bad of a way to finish off, we had more improvement the whole way through the weekend, so Romy did a good job of tuning the car up. We got some good points, and it was great to have both cars in the ten in the shootout and Tim also finished up there in the race, so we got some good team points – bring on Tasmania!”

Romy Mayer – Race Engineer for the #31 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro

“We started very well this morning with qualifying both cars in the top ten and then had a good starting position for the race. The beginning of the race looked very strong. We went pretty aggressive on the strategy on stopping early on both stops, but that did make us pretty vulnerable in the end and unfortunately we couldn’t hold onto P8; so it was P9 for us but we will take the top ten and we are still pretty happy with where we came on Friday where we were P21 in practice. As the only practice session, we kind of relied on getting better in the quali and races. To be in the top ten shootout and have a top ten finish in the race – we are pretty happy with that.”
