PERTH RETURN KICKS OFF MAD MARCH FOR PREMIAIR RACING

PremiAir Racing’s pursuit of a third consecutive Australian Top Fuel Championship continues this week, with the team travelling 8,000 kilometres (round trip) to the Perth Motorplex for what will amount to 20 seconds of racing at the Westernationals this Saturday and Sunday (March 4/5).

After taking out the win at the last round in Sydney in late January, Peter Xiberras and the PremiAir Racing team are equal second in the championship points with four of seven rounds completed; tied with Phil Read on 280 points, 90 points behind the leading Damien Harris (370).

“The joy of winning in Sydney at the last round is definitely still fresh in our minds and we would love to do it again,” Xiberras said.

“The Motorplex is a great place; this is my fourth trip over there and every time we are blown away by the facility and the crowd – we can’t wait to get back there again this weekend and put on another great show for the fans.

“Here is hoping we can bring home some more big trophies and further our position in the title chase too.

“Of course, we would love to close the championship gap to Damien this weekend and we won’t be leaving anything on the table as we try to do so.

“He is the home town hero, and the crowd really gets behind him and he goes all out, so it will be a tall order, but we will be giving it everything that we have got!”

As they did for the series’ last Perth round, the Goldenstates in November, all of the interstate Top Fuel teams are travelling in a convoy, which started from Sydney, across to the WA venue.

This weekend’s event signals the start of a ‘mad march’ for the PremiAir Racing team, with the Westernationals coming just one week before the opening round of the 2023 Supercars Championship at the Newcastle 500 (March 10-12), which will be swiftly followed by the Melbourne 400 from March 30.

“We sure do have a big couple of weeks coming up, but as always we have ensured we are meticulously prepared and will be bringing our A-Game both in Top Fuel and in the Supercars,” Xiberras said.

“From chasing the Top Fuel Championship to cutting our first race laps with our new Gen3 Supercars, the first two weeks of March are going to be exceptionally exciting!”
