PremiAir Racing and the rest of the Supercars field can head to The Bend Motorsport Park with greater confidence this week, after Supercars confirmed a course of action to resolve the brake pad concerns that emerged at Queensland Raceway last month.
Following a meeting between Supercars and teams earlier this week, the category has confirmed that new brake pads have been manufactured in the United Kingdom and sent directly to Tailem Bend ahead of next week’s AirTouch 500, the opening round of the Ryco Enduro Cup (September 11–13).
The consensus from that meeting was that the issues experienced at Ipswich were batch-related rather than a systemic problem with the product itself, giving teams and Supercars the confidence to act quickly and move on.
To ensure all teams have adequate opportunity to bed in the new pads, a 20-minute untimed session is expected to be added to the Friday morning programme. For PremiAir Racing, that session is significant, as both the #31 Chevrolet Camaro of Jayden Ojeda and David Russell, and the #777 of Declan Fraser and Nash Morris, will need to confirm consistent braking performance before 500 kilometres of racing begins.
Arriving at the circuit confident in the cars’ braking is non-negotiable at The Bend, a circuit with several high-speed braking zones. The team’s preparation through testing at Queensland Raceway earlier in the season will be valuable context as the new pads are evaluated.A full 26-car field will contest the AirTouch 500, with wildcards from Tickford Racing and Team 18 joining the regular championship lineup.
