DRAMATIC TEST DAY AT SMP🏁

DRAMATIC TEST DAY SEES PREMIAIR RACING IN GOOD STEAD FOR SEASON OPENER

PremiAir Racing has completed a dramatic yet fruitful test day alongside the rest of the Supercars field at Sydney Motorsport Park today in preparation for this weekend’s 2025 Championship opener, the Sydney 500.

In a long day of testing, the #31 and #62 PremiAir Racing Camaros of Jimmy Golding and Richie Stanaway were put through their paces, gaining valuable insight and providing necessary track time for the drivers and crew.

For Richie Stanaway, in particular, the time behind the wheel was especially valuable, with this being his first opportunity to drive his Supercar on track since joining the team for this season.

For Jimmy Golding, the day came to a head-turning end with a fireball erupting as he put his foot on the brake to bring the #31 to pit lane. However, while spectacular to look at, the team is pleased to report the damage is limited and unexpected to cause any issues when it comes to turning out on Friday’s day one of the championship with a strong and fast car.

With just one day now between them and the start of the new season, the PremiAir Racing team is hard at work preparing for what they hope will be a strong start to the 2025 championship chase across February 21-23. For event information, visit www.supercars.com

QUOTEBOARD: SYDNEY MOTORSPORT TEST DAY – 19 FEBRUARY 2025

Ludo Lacroix – Competition Director, PremiAir Racing

“Today was all about getting familiar with the car and tuning to a good balance.  We didn’t run any good tyres so we don’t know exactly where we are at, if we are fast, but we know our friends at Triple Eight went in the same sort of direction and did the same work, so we can’t be completely wrong! All together I am pleased with the day, the first 15 cars were within two-tenths of each other and there are a couple of areas around the track where we know we are not yet where we need to be, but we know what we are working on. All the cars and the drivers are at a high level and there is no difference in the cars, so that is where you really need to be on your game come qualifying. Richie is finding his mark in the car and we have addressed detail for him to get him comfortable and fast in the car, and for Jimmy, the car was a work in progress also across the day. The day did end with a bit of stress – there is a brand new assembly that goes on top of the fuel tank that started to leak, and so fuel was spraying on top of the fuel tank and everywhere, and when Jimmy broke to come into the pit lane it hit the exhaust and burst into flame, there would have been 3 or 4 litres of fuel straight onto the exhaust and with a lot of composite on the outside of the car it caught fire very quickly and looked really bad. But, it is not as bad as it looked – it wasn’t an electrical fire, there is no damaged wiring, nothing inside the cockpit, nothing inside the engine bay, it is all cosmetic damage, so I think we should be fine and still have a good car for Friday.”

Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro

“We had a bit of an eventful day today – the car actually caught fire, so it was good that we got some laps in earlier on in the day. We got most the way through before a fuel fitting issue at the back of the car started a fire. Luckily I got onto the extinguisher inside of the car quick and got it back into pit lane close to more extinguishers and people that could help extinguish it. I got out as soon as I could and the boys are working hard now trying to get it ready to go back out on track. Hopefully we’re all good to start practice on Friday. I want to say thank you to everyone for all the support and the messages that have been flowing in, I am all sweet and I can’t wait to get back in the car.”

Richie Stanaway – #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro

“I have been looking forward to driving the PremiAir Racing Camaro for many months now, so it has been nice to finally get out on the track. Whenever you change teams, and especially when you change cars, there’s always a few little ergonomical tweaks that you need to make and we managed to get everything right for me in the cockpit today, so I am feeling nice and comfortable. I still feel like I need a few more laps to get dialled in with the different feeling car but it has been a solid day and has been great to gel with the team. I am really looking forward to racing this weekend. We’ve got the day off tomorrow so we can really go through all of our data, go through all of our run plans, and see what we’ve learned from the day. Today all went by pretty quickly, so it is good that we have this time tomorrow to digest everything.”
