A condensed on-track program for day one of the Ipswich Super 440 sees PremiAir Racing hunting for more ahead of two races at Queensland Raceway tomorrow.
In less than three hours, the intensity was high as PremiAir Racing and the rest of the Supercars Championship field completed two 30-minute practice sessions, hitting the track affectionally dubbed ‘The Paperclip’ at 12.05pm and 2.20pm respectively.
In practice one, a red flag was called within the first five minutes for debris between turns one and two, but when things resumed, PremiAir Racing were off to a solid start, with a program worked through and final results of 11th (Richie Stanaway – #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro) and 17th (Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro) recorded.
In practice two, the field headed back out onto the QR racing surface for the final 30-minute practice session of the Ipswich Super 440 weekend, with both Stanaway and Golding running in the top half throughout the mid-part of the session, including some time at P2 for Golding in the #31.
Following the final laps of this second practice session, with qualifying simulations being run across the field, the team would walk away with P19 (Golding) and P23 (Stanaway).
With such a condensed program leaving much still to do ahead of Saturday’s busy schedule, Competition Director Ludo Lacroix and drivers Golding and Stanaway were tight-lipped after the on-track proceedings as they concentrated on the task ahead of them.
The Ipswich Super 440 will continue tomorrow with Saturday featuring two qualifiers (9.35am and 10.25am) and two 39 lap races (12.45pm and 4.10pm); ahead of qualifying, a top ten shootout, and a race on Sunday. For full event information, visit www.supercars.com
QUOTEBOARD: IPSWICH SUPER 440 – FRIDAY 8 AUGUST, 2025
Ludo Lacroix – Competition Director, PremiAir Racing
“It has been an average day, you would say. We probably went onto the tyre a tiny bit early, but overall, we are probably just not in the top ten. We are perhaps 12 or 13 at best, so we need to improve. Our mates at 888 are showing us how it’s done, so we can only move forward from where we are.
“We didn’t have any problems technically; the cars ran smoothly. We didn’t try a lot (of changes) as we are trying really to sort of understand how to use that car the best – as I say, our friends are using it better, so we need to understand how we can use it better and basically drive it better, so we are doing a lot of work on the drivers to the way we drive some of the corners and it takes a bit of time to gel and to get the muscle memory into the driver.”
Richie Stanaway – #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro
“It has been a while since we were here on track at Queensland Raceway and while this track layout appears simple, that is not the case. It demands precision, and consistency, and exit speed; it really is deeply technical. We have a ways to go yet if we want to challenge this weekend, but we are doing all we can to make sure we can improve.”
Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro
“We ran through our program of what we wanted to try and there are certain areas we need to work on, so we will work on those and do a better job tomorrow. It is great to be back here at The Paperclip after so much time away, the place is looking fantastic and it is great to see the fans coming out.”
