As Winter well and truly starts to hit in Queensland, where our team is based and also in Sydney, where our owners Peter and Carmen Xiberras live, it is safe to say the entire team at PremiAir Nulon Racing is looking forward to heading north to the sunny NT for this weekend’s Darwin Triple Crown.
It is set to be another big weekend of racing for the Supercars championship, and we have been very busy with preparations since we last hit the track for the Perth Super Sprint, heading out to Queensland Raceway for a productive test day.
At QR we focused heavily on the Super Soft tyres which will be used in Darwin, and we also had David Russell along for the day, who provided some valuable feedback on the car set-ups alongside our drivers Tim Slade and Jimmy Golding – with who David will be co-driving at the endurance races later this year.
It is safe to say we got a lot out of this test day, and we are feeling strong as we get ready to head north with a game plan well and truly locked down.
Tim and Jimmy have some good history to back them up in Darwin as well, with Tim having stood on the podium there twice before and Jimmy qualifying and finishing in the top ten last year on his first visit to Hidden Valley Raceway as part of our team.
While we are more than ready for the on-track action, the Darwin Triple Crown is so much more than the racing – it is a special event and one that we certainly look forward to.
The atmosphere is really something else with the locals well and truly coming out in support year after year, and the Wednesday truck convoy from the track to the city is also always a hit to mark the start of the festivities.
Something else we are quite pleased about is the fact that both Saturday and Sunday will feature Top Ten Shootouts ahead of the race each day – here’s hoping we can see both of our PremiAir Racing Nulon Camaros in those shootouts each day.
And of course, we cannot wait to see our special Indigenous round liveries in full flight around the track, and to have both Anthony and Saia Fainga’a – who along with celebrated artist Sheldon ‘SJ’ Harrington are responsible for the designs we will carry this weekend – on-track with us as part of the team throughout.
