Jayden Ojeda has headed to the Nürburgring this weekend for a round of GT World Challenge Europe, and the timing couldn’t be better.
The PremiAir Racing driver has been drafted into the #12 GetSpeed Team Dubai Mercedes-AMG GT3 for the seventh round of the GTWCE season, which doubles as a round of the Endurance Cup. Ojeda partners with Gabriel Rindone (UAE) and Tom Kalender (Germany), replacing Mikael Grenier, who has commitments in GT World Challenge America.
It’s a significant opportunity. GT World Challenge Europe is widely considered the pinnacle of the SRO Motorsports Group portfolio, with a 55-car grid featuring the best GT3 drivers and manufacturers in the world.
“Obviously, to get the chance of driving in GT World Challenge Europe is the ultimate opportunity in GT3 at this present moment,” Ojeda said. “They’ve got the biggest grids with the most manufacturers. The top GT drivers are within that field as well, so it’ll be really cool to go over there and do my first run in the series with a great team like GetSpeed and some good car drivers.”
The Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit holds a special appeal for Ojeda, who has visited the venue before but never raced it.
“It’s an awesome circuit with a lot of history, so it’ll be cool to go there. I’ve been there once before but haven’t had the joy to race it, so now they get to cut some laps of the circuit will be awesome.”
While the outing gives Ojeda a chance to measure himself against some of the best Mercedes-AMG drivers in the world, his focus is firmly on the team and their Bronze-classified driver Gabriel Rindone.
“It’s about making sure that we get the most out of Gabriel and he has the best weekend possible,” Ojeda explained. “We’ve got to be fast, but ultimately it’s just making sure that we don’t make the mistakes in the race and we can put together a full weekend and represent the brand well.”
That mindset- prioritising clean execution, supporting the team and avoiding errors in an endurance format – is exactly the preparation Ojeda needs heading into the Ryco Enduro Cup, where he’ll partner veteran David Russell in the #31 PremiAir Racing Chevrolet at The Bend Motorsport Park from September 11–13.
Ojeda has remained part of the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport family despite joining Supercars with PremiAir Racing, also contending in GT World Challenge Australia with Tigani Motorsport alongside Paul Lucchitti in the Pro-Am class this year.
Sunday’s race is a three-hour affair, with coverage available live on Kayo Sports.
