BETTING ON A BOUNCEBACK: PETER PREVIEWS THE IPSWICH SUPER 440
Once again we are getting ready to race ‘at home’ in Queensland, this time at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich.
While ‘The Paperclip’ might not be the closest track to our home base – that being the Gold Coast circuit – it is our local permanent facility and the host of all our test activity, including our recent driver evaluation day last week which was swiftly followed by the announcement that Nash Morris will be co-driver for Richie in this year’s Enduro season aboard the #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro.

Both Nash and Jimmy’s enduro co-driver for the #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro, David Russell, will be on-track alongside us at QR this weekend too – with DRuss in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia series and Nash at the wheel in the Dunlop Super2 Series, and we look forward to not only seeing how they perform across the weekend, but also having them in the garage with us when their schedule allows.
Speaking of our garage – heading into this weekend we are well and truly looking to bounce back from what has been a challenging two rounds in Darwin and Townsville.
Queensland Raceway is a short, fast, and deceptively technical layout, with six corners and plenty of passing opportunities.
While simple on paper, it demands lap consistency and strong exit speed – it will be all about precision and flow as the Supercars makes it return to this popular track for the first time since 2019.
As it has all season, one-lap pace improvement is a key focus for us and something we are hoping to make strides forward with at QR.
We have also continued our focus on pit stop performance and are looking to build further on our third-fastest stop of the field in Townsville, which was very rewarding given how much we have been working in this area.
Our eyes are firmly trained on maximising every session and converting speed into results as we get well into the second half of the season.
This will be Jimmy’s fourth round at the Ipswich circuit and Richie’s second, with the boys holding current personal bests of 13th (Race 2, 2018) and 12th (race 1, 2018) respectively.
This is actually our first time competing at Queensland Raceway with the Supercars, but we do have plenty of great success from our time spent next door at Willowbank Raceway with our Top Fuel Dragster – hopefully those memories can help inspire us forward this weekend, and I remember to not turn left off Champions Way by mistake!
See you in Ipswich!
