Supercars’ revised aerodynamic package for the Chevrolet Camaro has been given a positive reception following a competitive showing by the GM contingent at Symmons Plains, and it’s welcome news for PremiAir Racing as the team continues to develop its programme.
Tweaks to the Camaro’s aero balance were made ahead of the Ruapuna and Tasmania rounds, with the aim of shifting the aerodynamic balance rearward to better match the car’s on-track performance relative to its Ford Mustang and Toyota Supra rivals.
The changes were triggered after the Camaro’s early-season results prompted a review under Supercars’ new parity system, which uses lap times and race results to assess the competitive balance between the three models.
The revised package received widespread praise from within the Camaro camp following a strong weekend at Symmons Plains, with the consensus being that the car now feels much closer to what teams had been seeking since the start of the season.
With the package now signed off and bedded in, Supercars has indicated it will continue to explore further refinements ahead of Darwin as it looks to reduce the size of the balance parity box, with any changes to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
For PremiAir Racing and its Camaro pilots Jayden Ojeda (#31) and Declan Fraser (#777), the news is encouraging. Ojeda took his best solo race result to date at Symmons Plains last weekend, charging from outside the top 10 to finish sixth a result that underlines the team’s growing momentum as the season progresses.
The Repco Supercars Championship next heads to Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin from June 19–21.
