PremiAir Nulon Racing has ended what was a dramatic season-ending event for the 2024 Supercars Championship for all involved with a top eight result in a frenetic final 250km race at the Adelaide 500 this afternoon.
Jimmy Golding started Race 24 of the year in P17 in the #31 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro after making a mistake on his qualifying push lap and losing any chance to rectify that when qualifying was again declared early due to a heavy turn 8 crash for another competitor.
Despite starting from P17, a combination of strong car speed, good strategy and quick pit stops allowed Golding to race through the field in what he describes as the ‘funnest race he has had’ to finish well within the top ten and secure 7th in the championship standings in the process.
Tim Slade meanwhile started the 78-lap outing in P15 in his #23 PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro, with the red flags in qualifying also coming while he was pushing for a flier to advance up the grid.
Starting in the mid-pack, Slade showed very strong pace to move up to P12 early and was racing up the road from Golding when he was turned around by another competitor (who was penalised for the contact) and dropped to the back of the field.
Despite this setback, Slade – who raced his final event as a full-time Supercars competitor this weekend – did an excellent job to keep his focus and with a speedy car and strong stops, was able to climb back up to P15 by the race’s end.
The Adelaide 500 concludes the 2024 Supercars Championship, with PremiAir Nulon Racing classified as eighth in the Team’s Championship.
The team will now turn its attention towards a busy preparation program ready for the 2025 Supercars season, which will kick off with the 2025 Sydney 500 across February 21-23. For the full 2025 championship calendar, visit www.supercars.com/events/2025-sydney
QUOTEBOARD: ADELAIDE 500 – SUNDAY 17 NOVEMBER, 2024
Ludo Lacroix – Competition Director, PremiAir Nulon Racing
“It was a better finish today for us from where we started. We were disappointed with qualifying this morning – Jimmy didn’t really get in the groove and while he had good sectors he didn’t put it together for a total lap, although Tim did a good job compared to yesterday and was very solid in qualifying. What was good to see was the two cars finishing strong. Tim was unfortunately turned around early on, but actually had very strong pace all race long. Jimmy was really strong too which was good – we used what we had yesterday, which was strong pace under brakes, so we could actually undercut people and that is how we could move forward. He had a good start and we also picked up another two cars in the first pit stop, another two in the second pit stop, and he got another car towards the end as well which put us to P8. We should be happy with that after starting P17, that is a good result. We also had very good pit stops with fuel and were second and fifth fastest today for those which was really encouraging after a lot of work has been done there – hopefully we can carry on with that, although we still have a lot of work to do on the tyre stops, but that is progress we need to make during the set-up. There are definitely some positives to take away, and there is also a lot for us to do for next year to get stronger. In the meantime, we want to say thank you to Tim for all of his efforts and dedication – he has been an important and valued part of our team for two years, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

“That (Sunday’s race) was a good way to finish. It was not ideal this morning with a stuff up from myself in qualifying; I made a mistake on my quick lap and ultimately put us back, which made it a tough start today. But we recovered well and drove through the field back to P8. It was probably one of the funnest races this year, and that I have had at all, so that was a pretty cool way to finish out the year and a bit of a teaser for next year. It has also been awesome driving with Tim, having him as my teammate for the last couple of years has been great and he is a great mate and it was really enjoyable to work with him. It is disappointing to see him leave, and I wish him all the best with his next chapter – I am sure we will see him around the traps, and I can’t wait.”

“That is the last hurrah! It was a shame being turned around because we actually had some decent speed in the race. I think we could have been in the ten there which would have been nice as it has been a while since we have had that sort of potential, but I would much rather have that potential and speed and have something like that happen, than just be bobbling around at the back. I want to say a massive thank you to the team for the last couple of years, for all of their efforts. It has progressed a huge amount from when I first got here to now, and I wish the team all the best in the future because they deserve it. For me personally, I have spent a long time in the sport and I am very grateful and thankful to everyone who has helped and supported me over the years, and I look forward now to what is ahead.”
