PREMIAIR RACING LOOKING TO UNLOCK PERFORMANCE AS TITLE CHASE CONTINUES

Two-time and reigning Australian Top Fuel Champion Peter Xiberras is hoping this weekend’s Nitro Champs will see the team unlock a new level of performance as they try and chase down a third straight national title.

The May 5 and 6 event at Sydney Dragway marks the penultimate round of the 2022/2023 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship, in which Xiberras is currently third – 60 points adrift of title leader Damien Harris and 30 points away from second-placed Phil Read.

“It is no secret that we have been experiencing engine reliability issues in the PremiAir Racing Top Fuel Dragster this season, and we need to get on top of that so we can chase the record numbers we have previously run in Sydney,” Xiberras said.

“The weather conditions will be ideal for horsepower, but will also see our tuning window narrow.

“We will need a good result to stay in the hunt for our third straight championship, so hopefully we can unlock a new level of performance and lay down some more of the record-breaking runs we have been known for in Sydney.

“If we can do that, hopefully we can take home a good result and close the title fight gap right up ahead of the final round in June.”

Before Xiberras takes to the track, he will be taking to the road, driving the PremiAir Racing Top Fuel truck and trailer from the team’s Brisbane base to Sydney.

“Our truck driver Mick is busy at the wheel of our Supercars transporter bringing it back from Perth’s Supercars round, so I will be stepping in to get the Top Fueler down to Sydney,” Xiberras said.

“Back-to-back racing weekends are always exciting. We finished our Supercars  weekend on a high in Perth, so hopefully, we can continue that momentum through to Sydney!”

The 2023 Nitro Champs will feature two qualifying rounds on Friday the 5th of May at 4.30pm and 7.00pm local time, followed by three rounds of racing on Saturday the 6th of May at 2.00pm, 4.30pm and 7.00pm. For event and championship information, go to www.topfuelchampionship.com.au
