Before a wheel had turned at The Bend, the story was already being written.
Supercars published a feature ahead of the AirTouch 500 on Roland Dane’s influence at PremiAir Racing and the procedural impact he could have on the team’s endurance campaign. It wasn’t speculative. David Russell, who partners Jayden Ojeda in the #31 Chevrolet Camaro, was specific about it.
“Roland’s permanent presence has lifted the team,” Russell said. “Procedures and execution that’s where his experience is making a real difference.”
After PremiAir Racing finished fifth in a chaotic, rain-affected 500km race at The Bend Motorsport Park, those words carry considerably more weight.
It wasn’t a clean run, no endurance race ever is. The parity storm that saw Supercars clip the Camaro’s rear wing angle by 0.3 degrees just hours before qualifying added complication. The weather threw more at every team during the race itself. But PremiAir came through it. Ojeda and Russell emerged with a fifth-place finish that demonstrates exactly what this team is capable of in an endurance format.
This is what David Russell brings. In 144 Supercars races without him, PremiAir has recorded zero podiums. In the now 5 races with him, the team has reached the podium twice, including crossing the line first at the 2025 Bathurst 1000. There is a reason his name keeps appearing in the conversation around this circuit, around this time of year.
And now Roland Dane is part of that equation too. His fingerprints are on the details, the procedures, the communication, the execution under pressure. A chaotic 500km race is exactly the kind of event where that preparation shows.
With Russell alongside Ojeda and Dane now embedded in the operation, the team heads to the Repco Bathurst 1000 with momentum, credibility and unfinished business.
The Repco Bathurst 1000 runs October 8–11 at Mount Panorama.
