STRONG START TO SYMMONS PLAINS FOR PREMIAIR RACING

PremiAir Racing has got its Symmons Plains adventures off to a promising start today with strong performances in the two practice sessions of this weekend’s Tasmania Super 440, with the day highlighted by the second quickest lap of practice two for Richie Stanaway in the #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro.

Stanaway’s lap time of 51.0887 seconds had been enough to top the session heading into the final moments, but was ultimately usurped by just 0.0991 seconds as the clock ticked down to see him finish out the final on-track outing for the day in P2.

On the other side of the garage, Jimmy Golding in the #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro was also in strong form, running as high as P3 in the final stages before eventually being classified P17 (51.4371).

Earlier in the day, practice one had seen the team open its Tasmania ledger with a P8 (51.501) for Golding and P18 (51.731) for Stanaway, again with Golding having run as high as P1 earlier in the proceedings.

The day was run in cool conditions with an air temp of 15 degrees and a track temp of 20 degrees at the start of P1, with continuing cold temperatures expected for the coming days.

Saturday’s Supercars running at the Tasmania Super 440 will open with qualifying parts 1 and 2 for race 11 at 9.05am, ahead of qualifying parts 1 and 2 for race 12 at 9.55am. Race 11 will then be contested across 50 laps at 12.05pm, before Race 12 – also over 50 laps – kicks off at 3.55pm. Sunday will then feature qualifying parts 1 and 2 for race 13 at 9.35am ahead of a Top Ten Shootout at 11.55am, followed by the 78-lap race 13 at 2.45pm. QUOTEBOARD: TASMANIA SUPER 440 – Friday 9 May, 2025

Ludo Lacroix – Competition Director, PremiAir Racing

“It was an interesting result (P2 for Richie) – I didn’t see that coming and I would have liked to have seen that coming, as that would mean it was logical! It was a little bit of a ‘pick a number out of the hat and it is the winner’ situation, so we will have to repeat that tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and again and again and again. There are positives in the lap – it is funny that it was on a used tyre also, not a new tyre, so if we do a good preparation, we should be able to do a better job on the new tyre. I think we have managed to get the braking of the #62 working well and we managed to do the three important corners well and that is something we will need to repeat, repeat, repeat. It is one of those tracks where it is only three corners really, even though it is six or seven, there are three corners that are very, very important and give lap time, so we need those. The #31 did a good job this morning and they were strong and powerful. This afternoon they probably struggled a tiny bit, but not too much, I don’t think they are that far away. You have to remember that there are three rookies that have more tyres than the non-rookie drivers, so they always pop in at the top. I think we are changing some things on the #31 tonight which will make that car faster, and I am feeling confident. I think Jimmy was strong all day in my opinion, but that last run just didn’t connect completely. But they are not that far away.”

Richie Stanaway – #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro

“We had a good run at the end of practice two which put us P2, it was a bit unexpected actually, we didn’t roll out super strong or super confident, and even at the start of that second session I felt like I wasn’t quite sure where we needed to be at with the car. But we kept throwing stuff at it and the last set up change was really positive and put the car in a good window. So hopefully we can continue that on throughout the rest of the weekend.”

Jimmy Golding – #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro

“Practice went relatively smoothly, and we got through what we had planned to do. We have got a lot of information to sort through for tomorrow. We think we know the plan of attack already, but we just want to make sure we go through everything with a fine-tooth comb and make sure we roll out strong. I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
