Supercars has confirmed changes to the Sunday race format at the upcoming Tyrepower Tasmania Super440, extending the race distance and adding a third compulsory pit stop ahead of the May 22–24 event at Symmons Plains Raceway.
The Sunday finale will now run 84 laps, up from the 78-lap format used in 2025, bringing the race closer to its intended 200km distance. A third mandatory pit stop has also been added to the schedule.
The changes follow analysis of fuel consumption figures, with a revised fuel blend introduced for the 2026 season, resulting in higher consumption. Supercars’ fuel is composed of 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent bio-gasoline sourced from waste material.
Symmons Plains presents a unique challenge for all teams. The 2.41km circuit features two long straights, resulting in a higher percentage of each lap spent at full throttle than at any other venue on the calendar. It was that characteristic that led to the race being trimmed to 78 laps in 2025 amid concerns it would devolve into a fuel-economy run rather than a racing contest.
With an extra six laps and an additional pit stop now confirmed, strategy will be a critical factor for Jayden Ojeda (#31) and Declan Fraser (#777) as PremiAir Racing prepares to take on Tasmania.
The two Saturday races remain unchanged at 50 laps each, hitting their intended 120km targets.
