XIBERRAS HOPING FOR HOMETOWN LUCK IN SYDNEY

Peter Xiberras is hoping to continue the recent trend of Burson Auto Parts Top Fuel Australia Championship competitors winning at their home rounds when the championship chase heads to Sydney Dragway this weekend for the Nitro Champs (May 6/7).

So far this season, every event has been won by a local – Phil Read won round one at Sydney in January. Phil Lamattina took victory at home in Mildura in March. In April, Damien Harris emerged victorious at his home track the Perth Motorplex.

While the PremiAir Hire Top Fuel Dragster is prepared in Queensland, Xiberras has always called Sydney home and is hoping that now it is his turn to benefit from some hometown luck this weekend as he looks to advance from second on the title standings.

“We are only 15 points behind Phil Lamattina in the championship standings and we have our eyes on the prize when it comes to defending our Australian title,” Xiberras said.

“We love racing at Sydney Dragway, especially now with all of the improvements that they made during the COVID-19 downtime.

“As my home round, it is also always great to have friends and extended family able to come out and watch. It is like a big family Christmas lunch for us, but at the drags.

“We are yet to claim our first victory this season, but we have always been in the hunt at every event, and I am full of confidence that we can walk away with the big trophy this weekend,” added Xiberras.

It has been a busy start to the year for PremiAir Racing and Xiberras, with this weekend’s event coming hot off the heels of the latest outing for the PremiAir Racing Supercar team, held in Perth. The next round for the Supercars team will be held at Winton Motor Raceway across May 21-22.

“We sure are busy these days, and I couldn’t be prouder of all at PremiAir Racing, whether they work on the Top Fuel side or the Supercar side, for pulling together and doing the best they can to give us a chance at defending the Australian title on the drag strip and building a competitive program in the Supercars despite it only being our very first year,” Xiberras added.
